Peace and Freedom Organization, byan official invitation from Ms. Jayathma WickramanayakeSecretary-General’s Envoy on Youth at the United Nations, participated in a high-level virtual event to launch the first-ever global report on youth protection in civic space on June 18, 2021.

 

The event brought together high-level government representatives, representatives of international and regional organizations, civil society and youth; raise awareness about the importance of upholding young people’s right to freedom of expression and freedom of peaceful assembly and of association; and explore opportunities for continued efforts to create safer and more enabling civic spaces for young people.

 

It will also include an official launch of the first-ever global report on Protecting Youth in Civic Space, commissioned by the Government of Norway and the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, in collaboration with the Protection Working Group under the Global Coalition on Youth, Peace and Security, and led by Ambassador Ms. Rita Izsák-Ndiaye, the former UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues and the current Special Representative on Children and Security at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
